Soil Pumping Stations
The soil pumping unit will revolutionise your mining operations
No mining job is ever the same. Although the challenges generally are, that is; moving large quantities of soil with as little impact on the environment as possible and in the most economical way. But where excavation may require excavators, haulage trucks with their accompanying massive impact on the environment are no longer needed. The excavator can instead dump the sand, tailings etc in a soil pumping unit that will then relocate the excavated material quickly and conveniently.
How will a soil pumping station work for you?
A soil pumping station is a flexible, easily transportable slurrification unit which fills the gap between dry excavation mining and pumping sand/water mixtures. The modular dry mining unit has been in use for decades. De Groot Nijkerk, now Damen Dredging, has made dozens of them throughout the past 50 years. Now with fully updated designs, modern mining slurrification units can effortlessly fluidise the spoil dumped in its hopper hold, thus enabling efficient transport by using just a dredge pump and its dredge piping, over long distances.
The open hopper receives the dry mined material
By adding transport water the slurry can be pumped over large distances
The missing link in mining
In surface mining plants, huge truck-shovel operations or excavator-conveyer haulage systems are often used. Yet the high levels of dust and noise that they inevitably produce can be reduced, and the transport hassle minimised by, using Soil Pumping Stations. Dredge pump units ensure the efficient hydraulic transport of mined material through pipelines, resulting in major reductions of dumper truck transports, safer road passages and lower fuel consumption.
How does a soil pumping station work?
Mining operations and sand pits have a high through-put of dry soil. This bulk has to be removed from the mining site to a processing plant or storage area. The continuous transport of these high volumes can be done by dumper trucks on roads or barges on waterways. The running costs of these mining operations can be reduced by introducing mobile dredging Soil Pumping Stations, which bridge the gap between mechanical dredging (excavation) and hydraulic dredging (pumping). Excavators or cable shovels dump the dry mined material in the hopper of the soil unit. There, water is added to slurrify the dry bulk into a pumpable mixture. A standard Damen dredge pump is used to pump the mixture out via a pipeline in a continuous process.
Turn-key solution - a complete dredge package
Soil Pumping Stations are a practical solution to shifting high volumes of sand, tailings or minerals. The dry mining unit itself fits in a standard open top container, and consists of a hopper, jet water nozzles and dredge piping. This is combined with a standard jet water pack which liquifies the cargo by continuously adding water. A separate standard dredge pump unit – which can be a Booster Station or a DOP Dredge Pump - is used to pump the material from the hopper to a processing plant, spoil field or geotube through a single pipeline. This highly flexible standard dredging equipment can be delivered from stock.
Low running costs
Removal of dry solids at a mining operation can be revolutionised using the Soil Pumping Station. Running costs are lower compared to a traditional truck carousel-based operation due to the absence of trucks and their drivers, sharply reducing fuel consumption and thus a lower carbon footprint. Production rates are no longer determined by the earth moving machines. The modular mobile dry mining unit can also be controlled remotely to add even more efficiency to the single pipeline slurry discharge system.
Match your excavator
The Soil Pumping Station is available in three sizes, made to match your shovel’s bucket.
