Explorer of the Seas

Royal Caribbean Cruises’ Explorer of the Seas recently underwent a scope of maintenance works at Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSBr). The vessel arrived in July, immediately following the departure of her sister vessel Anthem of the Seas.

Explorer of the Seas underwent a range of maintenance works, including the full overhaul of her four thrusters, work to her stabilisers, hull and superstructure painting, sea water piping renewal, azipod slewing bearing replacement and renewal of complete emergency and auxiliary genset exhausts.

The project took place during the coronavirus outbreak, which entailed DSBr incorporating robust safety measures to ensure that work could take place without compromising the well-being of personnel and crew.

Type of tasks performed

• Azipods slewing bearing seals replacement (tranfer of bearings out of the vessel for this operation)

• Azipods and fixipod shaft pullout for cryogenic cleaning of rotor and stator

• Thrusters full overhaul with renewal of 4 bodies

• Stabilizers works

• Hull & superstructure full paint system

• Sea water piping renewal

• Renewal of complete emergency and auxiliary genset exhausts

• Complete laundry equipments & materials offloading and loading

• Major logistic assistance for revit equipments loading (3 shell openings of 7m by 4m with dedicated platform)
