With roots stretching back almost 150 years – to the Royal Schelde yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands – Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) has a rich tradition in naval shipbuilding. Having delivered more than 400 vessels to customers all around the world, we are a trusted partner in the international marketplace, known for our role as full-service provider, or integrator, throughout the lifecycle of our products. While taking pride in our heritage, we are looking towards the future.
DSNS is part of Damen Naval, the dedicated naval shipbuilding division of the Damen Shipyards Group, which brings together all the naval activities of the group, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Together with Workboats, Yachting, Mid-Sized Vessels, Repair & Conversion, Maritime Ventures and Services, Damen Naval forms the new, more simplified structure of the Damen Shipyards Group, with clear lines of accountability.
The creation of Damen Naval follows a series of impressive accomplishments on the international market, among which are our selection for the design and build of the German Navy’s F126 frigates and the delivery of the 10th SIGMA combatant to the export market. Moreover, we are proud of our long tradition of serving the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN), the launching customer of eight successive generations of Damen Combatants. This relationship continues today with the contract to build the RNLN’s new Combat Support Ship and the new Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigates (ASWF) for both the Netherlands and Belgium, and our preselection as one of the parties – along with partner SAAB – for the Walrus Class Submarine Replacement Programme.
Although we will embrace our new division name, Damen Naval - a simple, international name that ensures consistency in communication and supports our ambitions to increase our exposure, our true identity will remain the same. That means that we continue to produce naval vessels that have a long lifespan, by offering cutting-edge technology and cost-efficient design solutions. We remain committed to helping protect the security interests of our customers at sea and providing a safe and pleasant working environment for their crews. We also remain dedicated to making the most of our skills to support the development of a sustainable shipbuilding industry in the client country. This includes through building on location, training and extensive knowledge transfer programmes. To ensure we meet these goals, we aim to attract and retain the best and brightest talent and to investing in the latest technologies.
