Pile driving is required for numerous civil engineering projects. Bottom material can be very hard in places, yet the piles need to go into the ground. For these challenging circumstances TMS has designed the ultimate tool.

Innovative pile drilling tool

The solution for driving piles stuck in hard bottom material is the TMS drilling tool. This innovative cutting implement is lowered into the pile. The casing of the drilling tool includes the drilling heads, their three hydraulic drives and two DOP submersible dredge pumps working in series. The drilling tool is fitted out with a clamping mechanism ensuring fixation within wall of the pile with diameters between 2 and 2.4 m.

Once the drilling tool is inside the pile, it is lowered down to the seabed where is crushes rock following the inner contour of the pile. The DOP150s are located in the drilling tool immediately above the drive of the drilling head. At the deepest point, the DOP pumps work at -60 m below sea level, pumping the tailings from the drill over some 100 metres to the surface.

Tailings removal

The excavating head creates a layer of rubble. The DOP submersible dredge pumps ensure the efficient removal of these tailings. The successful combination of a DOP & a drilling tool have been used successfully on a number of projects throughout Europe. Recently the drilling tool has been overhauled by TMS. The opportunity was used to do preventive maintenance on the DOP pumps at the Damen Dredging yard as well as SAT testing along the quay.
